We help support Indigenous families, communities, and schools in Nunavut, Northwest Territories and Yukon navigate Inuit Child First Initiative and Jordan’s Principle. Our non-profit organization is committed to enhancing the well-being of Indigenous children by providing comprehensive support, guidance and resources. Our mission revolves around ensuring that the unique needs of Indigenous children are acknowledged and met with cultural understanding in order to provide inclusive support.

We work as advocates to assist families, communities, and schools in navigating the complexities of the Inuit Child First Initiative and Jordan’s Principle application process. We also work towards dismantling systemic barriers to bridge the gap between the needs of Indigenous children and government systems. Our support helps to ensure that no child is left behind due to administrative hurdles. We are committed to securing equitable access to health, social and educational needs which are fundamental rights for every child.

How We Help

We provide support for Indigenous families, communities, and schools in Nunavut, Northwest Territories and Yukon.

We will guide you through the Inuit Child First Initiative / Jordan’s Principle application process to ensure every step is clear and easy.

We will complete and submit your application ensuring it includes all the needed supports, documentation, adequate funding amounts and is as strong as possible.

We will work as the primary contact with Inuit Child First Initiative and Jordan’s Principle to ensure all communication about your request is clear.

If you receive an approval:

  • We will ensure that you are able to access your approved
  • supports.
  • We can assist with finding vendors and ordering approved items.
  • We can assist with reimbursements and much more.
  • We will ensure every step is easy.

Support for Communities and Schools

At Indigenous Kids Network of Canada, we can provide in depth assistance to Indigenous communities and schools to apply for vital supports for large groups of children. We specialize in providing support in navigating the complex application processes for Inuit Child First Initiative and Jordan’s Principle. Our aim is to help facilitate access to essential resources to support the well-being of Indigenous children. We will assist with every step to make the process clear and easy. We will complete and submit your application ensuring all needed documentation and adequate funding amounts are included. We will ensure the request is as strong as possible and aligns with the distinct needs of the Indigenous children in your community or school.

About Inuit Child First Initiative and Jordan’s Principle

Who is Eligible?

Inuit Child First Initiative: Inuit children can request funding through the Inuit Child First Initiative. To be eligible the children must be:

  • under the age of majority in their province/territory of residence
  • recognized by an Inuit land claim organization

Jordan’s Principle: First Nations children under the age of majority in their province or territory of residence can access Jordan’s Principle, if the child meets one of the following criteria:

  • is registered or eligible to be registered under the Indian Act
  • has one parent or guardian who is registered or eligible to be registered under the Indian Act
  • is recognized by their nation for the purposes of Jordan’s Principle
  • is ordinarily resident on reserve

Will I Need a Letter of Support?

Every application to Inuit Child First Initiative and Jordan’s Principle requires a letter of support describing your child’s needs. Please contact us for more details on how to get started.

What is Covered?

Inuit Child First Initiative and Jordan’s Principle can cover children’s unmet needs. Funding can help with a wide range of health, social and educational needs, some examples would be:

Health and Medical: 

Medical supplies and equipment, mobility aids, therapies, mental health counseling, physiotherapy and much more. 

Social and Cultural:

Winter gear, beds, clothing, grocery support, baby supplies, diapers, sports equipment, cultural and land based supplies and much more.

Educational: 

School supplies, books, laptops, tablets, indoor shoes, educational assistants and much more.
